bento-box-n-asian-foodsI first discovered bento boxes when I first started watching anime. The girls in the stories frequently tried to impress the boys they liked by making cute little lunches for them. After that, I looked them up online. Wow! I was amazed at how many different styles of bento boxes there were. They come in metal, wood and plastic with fun anime characters as well.

Bento boxes are divided into individual compartments. Sometimes they have a second or third layer that all stack together for holding a meal. The main ingredient in the lunch is either rice or noodles. Then they add the fun stuff. The side dishes, or okazu, can be made of meat, eggs, fish, tofu, vegetables or fruit. The okazu is cut and prepared in bite sized pieces that work well with chopsticks. In children’s meals, the vegetables may be cut into cute shapes. They even have molds for boiled eggs! When I saw a picture of a boiled egg shaped like a teddy bear, I couldn’t believe it was an egg! They can also mold the rice into shapes. Some of the pictures I’ve seen have been extremely artistic and imaginative. The women who spend time making these bento box lunches are really creative. I’m tempted to buy a few of these lunchboxes at the local Asian store and try my hand at it. It sounds like a lot more fun than making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

L Character PlushLast weekend I went over to Lisa’s house just to hang out and have a bit of fun. The weather had been lousy all week and it wasn’t any better on the weekend but we all needed a fun get together to lift our spirits.

While everyone was arriving I was wandering around Lisa’s house and I came across her collection of plush dolls. I noticed that she had added quite a few more stuff characters to her collection like all the cast from the anime series the Death Note (I’m totally jealous).

She got the Death Note plush of L which I honestly thought about taking, I mean borrowing like forever because he’s one of my favorite characters and the plush really looks like him from the anime. L’s all crouch over in his cute white shirt and blue jeans (I want this plush so bad).

Next to L was the always cute Misa, Misa Amane in her adorable outfit and I just love her pigtail hairdo and right next to Misa, Misa was the genius (and kinda crazy) Light Yagami as Kira. He stood so proud and powerful with a tiny, red apple in his hand (no doubt for Ryuk) which Lisa also had on her shelf. What can I say about Ryuk? Ryuk is Ryuk and he too is another one of my favorite characters.

The plush dolls were soo cute and cuddly. I wouldn’t mind wrapping my arms around L or Light (wink).

I can’t help but to smile when I see these characters as funny chibi style plush dolls.

Now, how can I get Lisa to give me her L plush doll . . . I know she won’t part with it but maybe if I beg convincingly enough she’ll feel sorry for me and just give it to me. (nah, I’ll just get my own plush product. That will show her – ha, ha!)

I am a huge Death Note fan and I finally was able to get my hands on this amazing Misa Amane MoeArt anime figure. What a cute young lady we have here. Straight from Cartoon Network’s anime, Death Note, she’s so sweet and perky. Very sexy, yet innocence personified.

Yet is she all that innocent? A high school student and a pop star, but so much more than that. The girlfriend of Light Yagami, owner of the shinigami notebook, also called the Death Note, may be more than she seems.

As we know, anyone whose name is in Light’s notebook is scheduled to die. Our dear Misa has her own Death Note, so she needs to be careful out there. She’s much too sweet to meet an untimely end. Will her cute little “do” and those long, lacy stockings be enough to save her from tragedy? (Obviously, yes!) Or is her choice in boyfriends going to be a huge mistake in her young life? (no, not really)

So, I thought it would be better to take Misa home with me. Put her in a special place on my bookshelf, where she’ll be safe at night and there to greet me when I open my eyes in the morning. Yes, Misa belongs in any Death Note figure collection. What better way to start your day, than with your own little Misa Amane waiting for you. You should all be so lucky as I.

This weekend I was hanging out with Samantha and a few of our friends for a movie night. We decided to watch the movie 21. The story line was predictable but we all love the bright, shiny lights of Las Vegas and money, so overall we liked it. But what was really interesting after the movie was that Samantha’s boyfriend wanted to play a game of cards (he was inspired by the movie. We all were). So, Samantha goes to her room and brings out a deck of Death Note playing cards. I was super excited. I love the anime! I couldn’t believe it (playing cards, that’s sweet!)

When Jonathan shuffled the cards and dealt them out I couldn’t contain myself. I couldn’t wait to see which characters my set of cards contained. I must say they are an awesome deck of playing cards. Each card featured one of the popular Death Note characters. It was pretty nice having a pair of Lights, and L’s in my hand.

The Death Note deck of cards definitely made our game of poker and 21 more entertaining then it would have been with the regular deck of playing cards.

I wonder how our next movie night will turn out?!

Another great thing about Japan is its’ animation a.k.a. Anime. My best friend, Samantha, and I have been

Pino Pin Set

watching Ergo Proxy on DVD. So far, we are really enjoying the characters and storyline. Pino is my favorite, by the way. The other day Samantha got these really awesome Ergo Proxy pins which I just adored tremendously and badly wanted for myself. She got the Pino Pin Set.

They are the cutest depiction of the autoreiv and one of the great things about the pins is that you get two PVC Pino pins. One of her with her long purple hair and the top of her every day clothes, looking so cute (if she were really I would probably squeeze her so hard because she is just to cute) and the other pin is of her in her little bunny suit (that’s what I call it). If you haven’t figured it out yet, these pins are too cute for words. I can’t express how wonderful these pins are. The are made of PVC so they are flexible and can bend a bit if needed.

So, once I saw Samantha’s pins I had to place my order for the pins as well and I was super delighted when they arrived in the mail. Now, I have Pino with me 24/7. When I catch a glimpse of myself in the reflection and see Pino it brings a smile to my face every time. I am so glad I purchased this product. It’s just the thing I need to get me through the long work day.
