The city of Liverpool is a vibrant city in England’s north west.  Liverpool can claim to a great many world firsts. The most well known of these world “firsts”was the first commercial wet dock.  The docks in Liverpool were, during the first couple of decades of the nineteenth century, the country’s busiest accounting for the handling of around forty percent of the world’s trade. With such plentiful wealth it is not surprising that Liverpool possesses some of the most impressive museums and galleries in the British Isles, with only the nation’s capital, London, having more. In the article below I take a look at some of the other reasons why the city of Liverpool such an enjoyable city break destination.

Lots of people think that Liverpool does not have so many  stately homes, castles, historical buildings and fortified houses and despite the fact that Liverpool Castle disappeared eons ago the city of Liverpool is home to a few structures which are known all around the world.

The Beatles

The Beatles, Paul, John, George and Ringo,  are the world’s most critically acclaimed and successful pop acts. The Band were Liverpudlians (people from Liverpool)and it is possible to visit their old homes by taking a trip on one of the Liverpool tours. Obviously there are much more Beatles associated tourist attractions for example;  The Cavern Club, The Beatles Story, Mathew Street Gallery and The Beatles Shop, plus a few pubs( The Jacaranda in Slater Street, The Grapes in Mathew Street and Ye Cracke in Rice Street) and an immense selection of places mentioned in Beatles songs such as Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane.

Every fan of the Beatles will be thrilled to know that it is even possible to enjoy Liverpool bed & breakfast in a Beatles themed hotel.

Other Places To Visit In Liverpool

To be totally truthful the list of visitor attractions in the city of Liverpool is simply so immense that there is not enough space here to list them all. Some of the popular include The Albert Dock, The Merseyside Maritime Museum and Speke Hall plus Knowsley Safari Park, The Tate Liverpool and Liverpool’s two Cathedrals as well as much more.

Besides all of the visitor attractions described above Liverpool has long association with comedians.  The list of comedians hailing from Liverpool is incredibly huge but some of the most well known include Craig Charles, Alexei Sayle and Kenny Everett, readers who are older may recall Stan Boardman, Faith Brown and Arthur Askey or Jimmy Tarbuck, Les Dennis and Ken Dodd. So whenever you next visit the city of Liverpool make sure that your Liverpool bed and breakfast is in a Beatles theme hotel and that you pay a visit to a comedy club.

If this does not appeal to you maybe you should consider going to a soccer match? Liverpool has 2 superb football clubs ( Everton FC and Liverpool FC both of which having has amazing success. Their football grounds are Goodison Park and Anfield.
