Stratford-upon-Avon is a wonderful market  town within the West Midlands region of England within the United Kingdom which is tremendously popular with tourists. Mainly Stratford is known for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare and even supposing the vast majority of customer sights in Stratford-upon-Avon are related to the famous poet and playwright there are many different reasons to take a vacation within Stratford.

Located ninety one miles from the country’s capital, London Stratford-upon-Avon is the best place to watch one of William Shakespeare’s plays especially at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Although the town gets busy with tourists it remains a amazing place to visit.

Stratford has a wealth of Elizabethan and Jacobean buildings and in places such as Henley Street and Sheep Street are found those half-timbered black and white dwellings and other structures. Henley Street is most well known for being where you will see Shakespeare’s Birthplace, however it is also a superb shopping area. The oldest house (still lived in) in Stratford is found on Sheep Street. The Shrieves House is believed to be the house in which Oliver Cromwell stayed in before the 2nd battle of Worcester but, sadly, there is little or no evidence to prove the idea.

Art Galleries In Stratford

Stratford is an inspiring town visually and the town has many superb art galleries including; the Retrospectives Art Gallery, the Montpellier Gallery, the Barge Gallery and the Country Artists Visitor Centre.

Other Stratford-upon-Avon Tourist Attractions

Besides the main tourist attractions of Shakespeare’s Birthplace, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and Holy Trinity Church there are numerous other attractions to interest you. Those visitor attractions which may be of interest to you include; Stratford Armouries, Stratford Brass Rubbing Centre, the Butterfly Farm and the Teddy Bear Museum.

One of the most obvious features of the town is that it is built upon the banks of the beautiful River Avon. Nothing can be more pleasant than boating on the river. Besides the River Avon Stratford also features another waterway, the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal, which meets the river at Stratford.

The town is also perfect for cycling holidays as it has many cycle paths including the Stratford Greenway which is 5 miles long. Cycling in the surrounding countryside is highly enjoyable and a variety of gorgeous places to visit, such as Clopton Bridge, are located within a short distance of the town.
