Travelling in Brazil

This is a short Brazil travel guide for those that want an overview of what this fantastic country has to offer, including its famous sandy beaches, wild wilderness areas and sprawling cities.

Starting in the cities as this is where most people will start when arriving in Brazil . The most popular city with visitors being Rio de Janeiro, and when you arrive it is not hard to see why due to its spectacular setting and wealth of tourist attractions; a truly beautiful city and a must for any traveler to the country. Brazil’s largest city is Sao Paulo and whilst it is less popular with tourist its increasing importance on the business map means many international business people will spend time there. In addition Sao Paulo has some of Brazil’s best hotels, restaurants and nightlife. It is estimated that 8 out of 10 Brazilian people live in cities and there are far too many to list them all here but ones to further research include Salvador, Florianopolis, Recife, Fortaleza and the capital Brasilia.

Brazil beaches are one of the country’s biggest draws for travellers and most of the locals live a short distance from the beach . Whilst most of Brazil’s coast has great sandy beaches, the north of the country is particular good so check out beaches in the states of Bahia and Ceara. Also the temperature of the ocean in the north is warmer throughout the year . Many of the coastal cities also have some great beaches including Rio’s famous Ipanema and Copacabana, and Fortaleza’s Praia do Futuro which stretches to around 7km.

The vast majority of the interior of Brazil is relatively sparsely populated with large wilderness areas like the Amazon Rainforest and the Pantanal. These areas are also popular with visitors to Brazil with excursions offered by a range of tour companies. The Pantanal is famous for its impressive array of wildlife and many feel it is an even better place to see mammal and birds species than the Amazon Rainforest. The Amazon Rainforest’s dense vegetation can hide many of the species, however the experience of being in the Rainforest are unique and well worth a visit. For those keen to visit these regions the best way to get to the Rainforest in Brazil is a flight into Manaus where you’ll almost certainly continue your journey on the water by boat . For the Pantanal there are a couple of entry points at Cuiabá and Campo Grande, and again an internal flight is the best way in.

The lifestyle in Brazil is generally very relaxed and the Brazilians have a reputation for being very friendly, approachable and fun loving. Whilst this is certainly the case, visitors do encounter occasional problems with crime in Brazil and this is mainly in the large cities so do take the usual precautions when getting around but this shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the nightlife and seeing the city sights. Due to the size of Brazil , the climate varies depending on where you are with the extreme southern regions experiencing a cooler winter period during June, July and August, although most of the country lies in the tropics and therefore has a wet and dry period so do check more detailed information prior to traveling.
